Juvederm® XC Ultra Orange County
This product was approved by FDA in June 2006. Juvederm® provides a smooth, long-lasting correction of facial wrinkles and folds. It contains the highest concentration of non-animal based, highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid dermal filler currently available. Juvederm®’s consistency is uniquely smooth more like a viscous liquid than the gel consistency of most other hyaluronic acid fillers. The unique formulation of Juvederm® seems to result in a longer duration of effect (up to one year). Juvederm® Injectable Gel offers two formulations. Juvederm® Ultra and Juvederm® Ultra plus. Juvederm® Ultra is highly cross linked for contouring and volumizing superficial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm® Ultra plus is a more highly cross-linked formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles.
What is Juvederm® Used For?
Juvederm® may be used for filling in nasolabial folds or smile lines, filling in glabellar lines (frown lines or 11 lines) between the eyebrows, filling in marionette lines at the corners of the mouth, eliminating under eye dark circles by filling in the groove underneath the lower eyelid and enhancing the lips. It can also be used to correct some scars. We can also utilize Juvederm® to correct sagging cheeks or even correct an under-projected or small chin. It is a temporary solution but an excellent option for those desiring a quick solution for a special occasion. What is the difference between Juvederm® and Restylane?
Juvederm® contains a higher concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid and is more concentrated than Restylane. Whether that translates into a major difference in duration of effect remains to be seen. Juvederm® is smoother and less viscous which may reduce the incidence of bumps and lumps after injection than with Restylane. Juvederm® is also supposed to last around 8 months to one year, as compared to 6 for Restylane.
What to Expect During and After Treatment With Juvederm®
Because Juvederm® injectable gel is a simple, nonsurgical treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime. So you can make an appointment get the procedure and get right back to your life. Here’s what to expect when you visit us for treatment. Dr. Bolourian will examine the soft tissue of your face to assess the depth of wrinkles and folds to determine your treatment. This allows us to better tailor treatment to your unique needs. We may even take pretreatment photographs so you can see the difference after treatment. Prior to the procedure we may use topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first. Juvederm® injectable gel is eased under your skin to augment, or fill, wrinkles and folds. The procedure is quick and easy. The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes. After the procedure with Juvederm®, there is minimal recovery or downtime. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period. We will inform you when makeup may be applied after your treatment. You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. Supplemental touch up treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.
