What type of lift is right for me?
Facelift surgery and PDO thread lifts may help us achieve a youthful appearance, but their differences in longevity, results, downtime, and cost can help you decide which is best for you. Surgical lifting or a traditional facelift typically lasts 10 to 15 times longer than a thread lift. Thread lifts are non-invasive and much quicker procedures. They do not require downtime, and are more affordable.
What to expect from a Thread Lift
Thread lifts may be a better option for young patients just looking to tweak their facial proportions, not dramatically change their face. Patients who are not good candidates for surgery based on their health or those who cannot take the time to recover from surgery can chose thread lift instead.
- Soften Smile Lines, Define the Jaw, & Tighten the Neck
- Minimal Bruising & Swelling
- Short Recovery/Idle Time (1-2 weeks)
- No Scarring
- No Operating Room or General Anesthesia
- Amazing Results That are Seen Almost Instantly
Thread lifting can be considered a “bridge” between the two ends of the treatment spectrum, offering an exciting option for patients who want more than noninvasive fillers but are not quite ready for surgery yet.
At Orange County Surgical Specialists, Dr. Bolourian uses FDA approved threads made of polydioxanone (PDO) which is a safe, absorbable synthetic polymer that has been long used as a suture material in surgery.

How do PDO threads lift and hold the skin up?
The ThreadLift™(face lift Orange County) employs non-surgical “cogged” threads and sutures that have been used for decades in surgery.
The ThreadLift™(face lift Orange County) works by having these tiny threads inserted painlessly under the skin. These fine threads are similar to those that would be used to support the deep structures of the face in surgical facelift. Using local anesthetic, the threads are strategically placed with a special guide needle. The threads are then able to grab on to the droopy soft-tissue and muscle of the desired area and not only lift the droopy structures, they also stimulate your own collagen production for long lasting results.
The ThreadLift™(face lift Orange County) is not painful and most patients can return to normal activities with makeup the next day. The threads stay where they are inserted and, like all internal sutures, are generally well tolerated by the body. In rare cases where the threads are not tolerated by a patient, they can easily be retrieved and removed.
Can threads be used for scars, including acne scars?
Yes; Dr. Bolourian uses multiple smooth threads in areas of acne scars to stimulate body’s collagen production and soften the scars. This procedure may be repeated few times to obtain excellent results.
How is Recuperation and Healing?
The ThreadLift™(face lift Orange County) has minimal downtime. You can most often apply make up and return to work the next day. Depending on the patient and the extent of the procedure, you may experience mild swelling and bruising that would resolve within 4-5 days. The steps our patients take before and after the procedure also determines the extend of recovery.
What is the cost of Thread Lift?
Depending on the area being treated, the cost varies form $300-$3000.
How long does the effects of Thread Lift last?
We usually tell our patient that the lifting effects of Thread Lift may last up to one year. However, PDO threads stimulates body’s natural collagen production. The collagen produced, last much longer, providing a natural youthful look.
