PRP
what is platelet-rich plasma “PRP”?
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. Platelets are the cells found in blood that naturally assist your body with tissue healing and new cell growth, which provides amazing skin tightening results. When our bodies experience an injury, platelets collect at the site where the damage has occurred to promote healing. The science behind PRP and the reason Dr. Bolourian sees so many men and women who benefit from its use is that PRP has been concentrated to contain up to 30 times the amount of growth factors the blood normally contains. This is the reason why we refer to it as “liquid gold” for skin tightening procedures. A small amount of blood (similar to what is required for a basic lab test) is drawn. The blood is placed in a centrifuge that spins the blood at a fast speed to separate the liquid plasma from other components. The isolated portion of the plasma that is richest in stem cells and growth factors works to signal growth factors which are key in your body’s natural healing and regenerative abilities.
how is PRP used?
PRP can be used in a variety of ways. Most commonly, PRP can be injected directly into the scalp to treat hair thinning and loss in both male and female patients. This protocol is currently being used on its own and in combination with the NeoGraft F.U.E. hair transplant procedure. Injectable PRP can also be used in combination with dermal fillers to help restore volume in facial areas.
At our practice we commonly perform microneedling in conjunction to PRP as a topical treatment for skin rejuvenation. These treatments create micro-channels in the superficial layers of the skin, allowing the PRP to treat at deeper levels boosting collagen production and treating textural concerns such as acne scarring, skin laxity and fine lines. By applying PRP into the skin during these types of facial treatments, patients experience amazing benefits like:
- Skin tightening and rejuvenation
- Boosting of collagen and elastin
- Enhancement of skin tone and texture
- Improvement of fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduction in the appearance of scars
- Optimizes conditions for healing and generation of new skin
One of the main reasons PRP is so successful in providing amazing skin tightening results for men and women is due to the concentration of growth factors in the plasma. Reza Bolourian, MD, FACS and his staff are trained with the proper techniques and have the proper equipment to deliver highly concentrated plasma deep into the skin for effective and amazing results.
